Leesha Gooseberry

The Post Conviction Justice Project

Leesha Gooseberry was forced into a relationship at 15 when a 39-year-old year-old notorious drug dealer claimed he “owned” her. He regularly beat and raped her. After a violent and bloody rape in the presence of their infant daughter, Leesha shot her abuser with his own gun. She served 26 years until the USC Post Conviction Justice Project successfully advocated for her release as a battered woman.
