Sarah Slamen

Texas Activist

BIO

Sarah Slamen spoke out against the Texas government for their anti-choice policies during state legislative hearings at the Texas State Senate. As one witness explained the difficult decision of aborting her pregnancy after learning her unborn child had a rare form of spina bifida, an anti-choice advocate interjected that she’d known children with the disease who had been adopted – an interruption not called out as a breach of Senate decorum. When Ms. Slamen vocalized her disgust for the proceedings, she was interrupted mid-speech and forcibly removed from the building.

She later received national attention and support for her courage in calling out state legislators and appeared on MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell to finish her testimony.
